The closing session of the 148th General Assembly was held, attended by Delegates from around the world. Activities included:

Alois Breitfuss, Austria receiving the Honored Friend of the Accordion Award. A teacher, conductor, promotor and publisher, he founded and owned the famous Austrian publishing company ABC-Edition in Salzburg. During 30 years the ABC-Edition published more than 500 compositions in 200 albums, including music for accordion solo, chamber music and music for accordion orchestras.

Slaviša Perić was awarded role of CIA Honorary Vice Presdient in the lead up to the 76th Coupe Mondiale in Bijeljina,
Bosnia and Herzegovina. As is tradition, the role is passed on from the current Honorary Vice President who this year is Ruedi Marty, Switzerland.

The awards concert opened with the World Premiere of Sonata No. 3 by Kalevi Aho performed by Janne Valkeajoki. Janne studied accordion at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki with Matti Rantanen and and Veli Kujala. He then attended the master class at the Hochschule für Musik in Würzburg, Germany, with Stefan Hussong and others. Valkeajoki has collaborated with and premiered the works of many
world-renowned contemporary composers.
Kalevi Aho’s third accordion sonata is one of the most important new accordion works in many years. “This third solo sonata for accordion is a natural continuation to our close and fruitful collaboration.”
